Protecting the people we support.
Our safeguarding policy applies to everyone who acts on behalf of the organisation, in France and in Egypt.
The protection of people comes before any other consideration, including operational, financial or communication concerns. The organisation applies zero tolerance to any form of exploitation or abuse, and makes sure that its interventions, partnerships and communication do not expose the people it supports to additional risks.
- Zero tolerance of any form of exploitation or abuse.
- A confidential channel: report@
humanseabridge.org - Concerns received by a Safeguarding Lead who is independent of the presidency, to be appointed by the Board of Directors once the new Executive Committee is in place (in progress). In the meantime, any concerns are read by the two board members from outside the founding couple.
- Report in your own language, without ever losing the support under way.
- An annual report and a review at least every two years.
Four rules, no exceptions.
They apply to directors, volunteers, local focal points, service providers and partners who work with us.
Your agreement comes first.
We ask for your agreement before acting on your behalf, or that of your legal representative for a minor. It is obtained in a language you understand and can be withdrawn at any time, without losing the support already under way.
Help is never traded.
Support is never conditional on anything in return, whether personal, financial, political, religious or media-related. No one may demand or suggest it.
Nothing without specific consent.
No photo or testimony is published without consent that is separate from consent to support. It can be withdrawn at any time; we then stop any further use.
Heightened vigilance.
We seek the agreement of legal representatives, involve children in decisions according to their age and maturity, use transparent settings for contact, and remind everyone of the rules of conduct before each mission.
Something is wrong? Tell us.
Anyone — a person we support, a relative, a volunteer, a partner or a third party — can raise a concern.
In writingreport@
- in person, with one of the two board members from outside the founding couple (and, once appointed, the Safeguarding Lead) or, in Egypt, the Arabic-speaking local focal point;
- with any person in charge at the organisation, who passes it on without delay.
You can raise a concern in your own language. Doing so will never cost you the organisation’s support.
Confidential, impartial, protective.
Until a Safeguarding Lead is appointed, concerns are received and reviewed by the two board members from outside the founding couple, who are independent of the organisation’s presidency. Once appointed, the Lead will take over this role. Every concern is acknowledged and reviewed impartially. Immediate protective measures are taken where needed, and facts that may amount to an offence are referred to the relevant authorities.
The identity of the person raising the concern is kept confidential. No retaliation is allowed against anyone who reports in good faith, even if the facts are not confirmed. If the Safeguarding Lead is personally involved, the concern is handled by another person in charge who is not.
What the policy covers, and who oversees it.
What should be reported.
Sexual exploitation and abuse, harassment, physical or psychological violence, discrimination, neglect, degrading or humiliating treatment, and anything demanded in exchange for support. It also covers publishing a photo or medical information without permission, or a location that could identify a vulnerable person.
An annual report.
Each year the Safeguarding Lead presents an anonymised report to the Executive Committee and then to the Board of Directors, which reviews how the policy is applied. The policy is revised at least every two years, or sooner if a concern shows it is needed.

Raise it, in confidence.
One message is enough. Until a Safeguarding Lead is appointed, it is read by the two board members from outside the founding couple.
