PUBLIC POSITIONS AND MOBILISATION · 22 AUGUST 2026
Context. This article reports how Simon Moutquin, a former Belgian federal MP, relayed the appeal for the Al Rayyes family on 22 August 2026. Relaying an appeal does not mean that the association endorses anyone’s positions: Human Sea Bridge supports no party and no candidate (Article 5 of its articles of association). The association’s founders host Yaser Al Rayyes; this link is declared in our story.
A meeting on the trails of Brittany is bringing renewed attention to the mobilisation for the Al Rayyes family. In a Reel posted on Instagram, former Belgian federal MP Simon Moutquin describes meeting Jérôme and Emna. Together with Yaser and, later, a support committee, they have been involved since the very beginning of this shared effort, which became Human Sea Bridge.
A meeting that carries the story further
In this video, Simon Moutquin retraces the story of Yaser Al Rayyes and his family: a singular and deeply moving story, which echoes that of many Palestinian families facing war, displacement and the impossibility of accessing the care they need.
He also highlights the commitment of those who, often out of the public eye, devote time and energy to making possible pathways that administrative, medical or diplomatic obstacles keep on hold.
The wait continues in Cairo
Evacuated from Gaza and now reunited in Cairo, the Al Rayyes family is still waiting for a solution that will allow their care pathway to continue.
Arafat, Yaser’s father, is seriously injured and requires specialist care. Sanaa, his mother, must also be able to continue her treatment. Suitable medical care has been identified in France, but the family’s transfer still depends on the necessary procedures being completed.
In his Reel, Simon Moutquin calls directly on the French authorities so that this situation can finally be resolved.
Support for Human Sea Bridge
By mentioning Human Sea Bridge and inviting his community to follow and support our work, Simon Moutquin is helping to raise awareness of a struggle that goes beyond a single family.
Every share makes the obstacles encountered more visible. Each time the appeal is passed on, it can reach an institution, a healthcare facility, a partner or someone able to help open the way to the next step.
We thank him for speaking out, as well as everyone who continues to share this appeal.
The mobilisation must continue until the Al Rayyes family can safely access the care they need.
